Politics got you down? Want to get back down to earth?
Licking County Democrats heard last night from several organizers of an ambitious community garden program to help make available healthy local produce to area food banks and to those in need.
"It's happening all over now," said Judy Farris, a McKean Township resident who with Newark Community Programs Coordinator Terry Mooney is taking leadership on the Licking County initiative, still in its planning stage.
Those interested in learning more should attend a planning meeting at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 31, at the Second Presbyterian Church, 42 E. Church St., Newark, or contact Mooney at 740-670-7539.
Does this mean progressives should spend August hidden away in the weeds?
Not likely. Here's what else is going on, according to the Licking County Democratic Club:
- Volunteer to help at the Democratic booth at the Pataskala Street Fair, Aug. 19-22. The Saturday parade starts at noon with participants lining up at 11 a.m. Contact is grace.cherrington@gmail.com
- Heath mayoral candidate Mark Johns is hosting a spaghetti fund raiser at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at the UAW Hall, 32 Licking Dr., Heath. Admission $10, $5 for kids.
- The annual Licking County Democratic Picnic and Auction will be held Sunday afternoon, Aug. 23, at the Moose Lodge, 236 W. National Dr.
