Brunner, aka Jennifer Brunner, Ohio Secretary of State seeking the Democratic nomination to run next year for the U.S. Senate, has a lot more than football on her mind these days. In a mailing last week, for example, she strongly endorsed the pending health insurance reform bill before the Congress - including a public option alternative to private health insurance.
"We must fight for a public option in our country's health care reform. We already know it works in Medicare. It's worked for more than 40 years.
With 45 million uninsured Americans, what we don't need is more corporate solutions that reward those who exclude sick Americans whose health care expenses we eventually pay anyway in the form of higher premiums and health care costs.
This insanity must end.
Without the public option, it will be like hitting our heads against a wall to cure a headache, and we all know that doesn't work."
